Rain

last night I felt pretty rough so was not sure that I would be able to cycle today, but after an afternoon nap and 9 hours sleep,I felt up to the challenge.A glance out of the window showed light rain but by then I was committed.A light breakfast, because I am fed up with scrambled eggs and did not have much appetite. Then onto the road with all rain gear on at 07.00.Up to the refreshment stop at 34 miles the rain was very light and neither intrusive or venomous.Today was unusual in that we left town on a proper segregated cycle track,no parked cars and no rubbish in the way.Well done Indianapolis. After 5 miles we turned onto a cycle trail with only rabbits disturbed by our passage.
Then onto a long straight road all the way to Richmond, barely a curve, but a light following wind for a while, which died down when the real rain started.
The only excitement came when I saw an Amish chap park his buggy and go into the bank.
As I was a bit below par I had the pleasure of following Elizabeth for a good few miles today, she rode very strongly, despite being drenched.Oddly today we passed through one small town after another without the agricultural miles in between. All very well until one needs to find a secluded tree, there were not many at all.
We were about 10 miles short of the hotel when along came the dreaded thump thump of another flat.So standing in the poring rain, feeling like I should be anywhere else,we had to fix it and in the process get colder and colder.Off we go and once more find ourselves in the town to which we were headed but with 10 Kms of freeway to negotiate to arrive-such a frustration that the hotels are always miles from the town.Anyway we arrived and joined the soggy mass of cyclists in the hotel lobby.But-our room was ready,so leaving large glops of water everywhere ,we staggered into the room and straight into a hot bath.Warm and dry we thought about getting some lunch but the heavy rain had turned into a Biblical deluge and so we stayed put.I managed to scrounge two scones left from breakfast, two yoghurts ,two apples and two blueberry muffins,so we did not do too badly.
So 2474 miles completed, less than 1000 left now,but a few mountains still to climb, figuratively and practically. There is a model T museum hereabouts but nobody is seeking it out,for me another nap and hope for better health tomorrow.Elizabeth meanwhile is aggressively drying things out.She never stops!
