A very pleasant evening was spent with Tris ,Rachel and the girls, culminating in watching Tottenhams remarkable defeat of Ajax-as Rachel is a fervent Spurs fan there was a little emotion in the room!
Taxi arrived in good time this morning driven by an exceedingly diplomatic Afgan.Had a good chat with him, during which he explained that Britain was the very best place for immigrants. All his family is still in Afganistan and he can rarely travel there, mainly because of the expense.
BA provided a very good service, much better than when we last flew with them. The stewardess is married to a pilot and told me it was very hard work to keep him from getting too tubby,so she has built a gym in the garage!
The low point of the day was the one and a half hour wait for USA immigration, whilst in the queue we were told that we would not need to show our passports again after using the validating machine. When the immigration officer therefore asked for our passports I unwisely expressed surprise-this led to a 3 minute lecture on my stupidity.
45 minute wait for the hotel bus,but arrived at last to an immediate and very warm welcome from Tom,the operations manager for the ride, and soon after from Paula, the overall supremo. And eventually we could unpack. Both bikes arrived safely and were taken off to be reassembled by the mechanic. One step forward.
