Rest Day in Santa Fe

I was hopeful of finding the Saracens v Gloucester semi final on the tv this morning, kick off 06.30.As we are always up at 05.00,the time did not feel to be a problem. However to my surprise I did not awaken until 07.00.Jumped out of bed, found the rugby and settled down to watch whilst Elizabeth started another round of washing.Once the game was over we had breakfast and I hoped to see the second semi final but alas it was not being televised here.So whilst E finished her washing I was musing about altitude. At sea level we enjoy 20.9% of oxygen in our air.In Albuquerque when we left yesterday we were at 5312 ft so only had 17% of oxygen,at Flagstaff it was only 16%,and here in Sata Fe at 7200 ft,a little under 16%,so we have been oxygen deprived for quite a few days, which probably accounts for the general weariness after relatively short distances cycled. And just may give us a boost when we return to sea level, although tomorrows ride starts with a climb!
Anyway after watching the rugby and having a light breakfast we caught up on Facetime with our two sons and decided to have an early lunch. We had bought a few provisions in Walmart yesterday evening, including some ice cream that we placed in the freezer compartment of the fridge.Elizabeth decided to get it out to defrost but found that it already had,so we had a very pleasant ice cream drink.

Then off on the hotel shuttle to the old town area.Santa Fe is the abbreviated version of the towns real name La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asís  and was founded in 1610,a church survives from this date
and is the oldest church building in the USA.
Nearby is the supposed oldest house ,which dates from 1646,but is not much to look at! Of course really the oldest church was built under Spanish rule,as Santa Fe was part of Mexico until 1846,so to claim it as American is a bit of a quirk.Having viewed the Old Governors palace
and wandered around an interesting art exhibition
We sought out the Santa Fe river, but were less than impressed with its size .
Then we took the shuttle back to the hotel, and another wine tasting before catching up on various chores.Tomorrow the adventure starts again with breakfast at 06.00
