Safely in Riverside, the first 79 miles in the bag! Set of from Los Angeles at 07.00 to ride down to the pacific ocean, some folk dipped their wheels in the sea,Elizabeth and I preferred to keep our feet salt and sand free, but took a photo. After a while of photographs and saying goodbye to various interested families and old (previous tour) cyclists we were on our way.Very built up to start, but usually a cycle lane and the traffic was quite light and well behaved. After a couple of hours cycling we arrived at the first refreshment stop, plenty of fruit, bars and fluids.Very welcome.Elizabeth and I arrived with the first group but only because we managed to stick on the tails of a couple of chaps.
Lost them after the stop at some traffic lights that we were just too slow to get through, but had a very enjoyable cycle track along side a river, with ducks, geese, herons etc.
Second stop arrived at the top of a short hill, but we were welcomed by Paula to show us the way in.More welcome calories as the heat had begun to be apparent by then(was cool first thing ,I had to wear a light jacket).
The third session included a stop for a sandwich lunch for Elizabeth and I ,but many of the group did not bother. Arrived at the hotel by 14.30,Elizabeth the first lady there!!!
One of the last roads we cycled down was through old orange groves but most of the land had been sold for smart properties-see an example below.
